Massapé ceramic sculpture representing Laursa.

Laursa is a carnival block and alludes to a dancing bear that raised money in European public squares (19th century). A carnival game, which with European migrations became part of the imagination of Northeastern culture.

The artisan Antonio Rodrigues, from Caruaru, PE, continues the art of his father, Zé Caboclo. He uses a spatula, knife, comb and improvised instruments in massapé ceramics. His figurative art talks a lot about the folklore of Pernambuco.
