master Bezinho Kambiwá

Inspired by his grandfather and father, Manoel Bezerra da Silva, 55 years old, better known as Mestre Bezinho Kambiwá, took his first steps in handicrafts at 15, when he made jewelry. The work went well and, in a short period of time, he began to observe with more appreciation the work carried out in wood by his grandfather Joaquim, and began to produce small pieces.

Improvement came with time and also with practice. Bezinho, who lives in the municipality of Ibimirim, in the Sertão of Pernambuco, has invested time and love in his craft productions in wood.

The master has already taught his techniques to several young people from the Kambiwá community, an indigenous people who inhabit some municipalities in Pernambuco, in the Brazilian Northeast, between the municipalities of Ibimirim and Inajá.

Known for carving wooden saints and other religious pieces, Bezinho also produces animals. Today, the master’s dream is for other artists to continue his work. “I really want other people to be at Alameda dos Mestres tomorrow representing our community, because for me it is a dream come true to be on the team of teachers from Pernambuco. It is pride”.
