Jamile e Jailton

The father gives the shape, sculpting the wood, and the daughter gives colour with the painting. These are Jailton and Jamile, artisans from Ilha do Ferro, town near the city of Pão de Açúcar, Alagoas state. It was watching the Mestre Fernando, one of the biggest names of craftsmanship in Alagoas, that Jailton Rodrigues decided to try to give form to animals and other figures with the wood he would find, before giving them to other artisans. It was only about one year ago that father and daughter combined their talents, when Jamile, due to her father’s lack of time, decided to paint one of the birds created by Jailton, giving birth to a work with unique and remarkable identity that pushed the reach of their art.
